Today’s review features the Fifth Sun x Star Wars Solo Kessel Run tank top. I was obviously excited when it was revealed that the famous Kessel Run would be part of Solo A Star Wars Story, and I eagerly awaited the merchandise that would feature the Kessel Run. This tank top by Fifth Sun was in my shopping cart the instant I saw it – I love the fun and vibrant print!

The tank top came with a Solo A Star Wars Story cardboard tag, but in this case, the tag wasn’t attached with the usual thin plastic attachment. The heather grey fabric is 50% polyester / 25% cotton / 25% rayon – it is nice and soft, with a light feel. This tank top is great for warmer, summer weather – or as a fun Star Wars workout top. Personally, I bought this top for my jogging runs, and becuse you know, The Kessel Run(way) 🙂
This tank top is a size XS – flying flat and unstretched, it measures approximately 40cm across the chest (underarm to underarm), 47cm across the lower hem (side seam to side seam), and 49cm from front neckline to lower front hem.
The front of the tank top features a colourful print of the text ‘Just Made The Kessel Run’, with the silhouette of the Millennium Falcon flying by. As this is part of the Solo A Star Wars Story range of designs, the Millennium Falcon seen here is Lando’s, with the escape pod filling in the front ‘mandibles’.
The print is nice and soft, so it doesn’t add weight or stiffness to the drape of the fabric. As with all printed apparel, overstretching the fabric can cause small cracks in the print, but the print of this tank top still handles stretching quite well. The print colours are bright and vibrant, keeping with a vintage style that was often used for Solo apparel. Personally, I am a fan of pink and like to see it used for Star Wars designs – makes it a little different to the prints used on men’s apparel.
The neckline and armholes are edged with a small row of overlocking (serging), in a colour matched grey thread. The edges are not turned over and top stitched like standard t-shirts etc – this gives the tank top a light feel, as the edges keep the softer feel of raw fabric. Knit fabric like this does not fray like woven fabrics, so it doesn’t even need to be seamed (I have some Star Wars tank tops that do indeed have raw edges as part of a vintage/weathered style), but it keeps the edges looking nice, and provides a bit more reinforcement in areas like the shoulder straps.
The tank top features three fabric tags at the inner back neckline – the first features the classic Star Wars logo, the second features the manufacturer of the tank top itself (Next Level Apparel), while the third tag includes the size, fabric composition and garment care instructions. These tags are not sewn into the back seam – they are attached with a row of stitching over the top, so these can be unpicked and removed if you prefer.
The lower hem is also finished off with a small overlocked (serged) finish, which again keeps a lighter feel than a standard ‘turned over’ finish. This overlocking keeps the hem tidy without adding too much weight and stiffness to the fabric – the tank top has a lovely drape with this light edge.
Inside, the two side seams are finished in a standard overlocked (serged) seam. As the garment care tag is at the neckline, there are no tags on the inside seams – which is nice, those side tags can be itchy, especially for workout apparel.
The back of the tank top features a racer back-style shape, where the shoulder straps are shaped towards the center of the shoulder blades. This shape keeps the slender shoulder straps from slipping down your shoulders, and is perfect for wearing over a sports bra (or a bra with the shoulder straps crossed over at the back).
I own several Fifth Sun x Star Wars tank tops, so I know what to expect in terms of fabric, print, and overall style. I am always happy with my purchases of Fifth Sun apparel – the tank tops are perfect for hot summer days or as geeky workout apparel. With their huge range of Star Wars print designs to choose from, my shopping list always includes Fifth Sun t-shirts and tank tops – this was my first choice from their range of Solo tops (for obvious reasons), but I’ve already got a couple more in my shopping cart!
