US store Bloomingdale’s has partnered up with Star Wars and fashion designers for an exciting collaboration. Tomorrow, Bloomingdale’s Third Avenue flagship store will have costumes and props from The Force Awakens on display in five store windows – a wonderful treat for fans in New York. Then from December 3rd to 18th, the windows will be redecorated to feature Star Wars inspired looks from 10 amazing designers – Diane von Furstenberg, Cynthia Rowley, Giles Deacon, Halston, Opening Ceremony, Ovadia & Sons, Parker, Rag & Bone, Timo Weiland and Todd Snyder. Each designer choose a Star Wars Episode 7 character they were inspired by or could relate to, and designed a bespoke look inspired by that character. The designers have been working on their creations for months – the final created outfits will be auctioned off for charity via charitybuzz.com. The proceeds will go to Child Mind Institute, on behalf of Star Wars: Force for Change. The characters chosen by each designer are –
Cynthia Rowley – BB-8; Diane von Furstenberg – Rey; Giles Deacon – Captain Phasma; Halston – Kylo Ren; Opening Ceremony – Stormtrooper; Ovadia & Sons – Stormtrooper; Parker – Captain Phasma; Rag & Bone – Rey and Kylo Ren; Timo Weiland – Finn, and Todd Snyder – Chewbacca
There will also be a similar collection in the UK, with 10 London-based designers creating looks, supporting Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity, on behalf of Star Wars: Force For Change.
Bloomingdale’s will also launch a broad range of Star Wars apparel and accessories in pop shops throughout their chain of stores. Michael Kaplan (costume designer for The Force Awakens) has designed three limited edition reusable Star Wars tote bags that will be sold exclusively at Bloomingdale’s – a portion of the tote bag sales will also be donated to Child Mind Institute.
This is such an exciting partnership with Force For Change, and using fashion to help raise money for charity. I do hope at least some of the new retail items (like the tote bags) will be available online for those of us who can’t visit a Bloomindale’s store in person, so we can help contribute. The upcoming window displays sound amazing, I can’t wait to see photos of the completed Star Wars designer outfits!
