Today marks the 4th birthday of The Kessel Runway. While the website went live in December 2014, it was several months earlier that it truly started.
After playing with the idea for a Star Wars fashion blog for some time, I had been trying to come up with a good name. While emailing my husband at work one day, I mentioned my frustration of trying to find something unique. He came home and asked me what I thought about an idea he had while driving home – ‘The Kessel Runway‘. I loved it straight away – but what if someone else had already used it? We searched online as thoroughly as we could, and didn’t find anything. So the next step was usernames – were the domain name and social media accounts available? The name wasn’t taken anywhere, so I excitedly grabbed them all – the name was set! The date was 26th August 2014.
After a few months of logo design sketches, digital mock-ups, and browsing blog layouts, I published my first post on 1st November 2014. My official ‘launch date’ was 1st December 2014, when I finally made the website publicly viewable, and that is what I refer to as the official anniversary of this website – but it has been neat to mark the occasion that The Kessel Runway truly started for me. What started out as a small personal blog has now grown to a full-time passion – in April 2016 we moved web hosts and updated the website to reflect the new era. While I don’t use my original logo (seen below) on the website anymore, I still love it, it brings back so many fond memories of my original blog.
It was so much fun to see the ‘Kessel Run’ play a major part in the recent Solo film – from just a small line of dialogue in A New Hope, to a full action sequence with the Millennium Falcon! I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for The Kessel Runway – thanks for coming along with me.
