I recently had the incredible opportunity to ask Kristen a few questions about her fan fashion label, her favourite Star Wars fashion items, and her thoughts about the lack of licensed Padme’ Amidala apparel. Read on for the full interview –
How long have you been a Star Wars fan?
My earliest Star Wars memory is playing with my neighbors in 1999 after seeing the Phantom Menace in theaters. It wasn’t a huge part of my life, though, until about five years ago when I decided to do a re-watch and fell in love all over again.
Do you have a favourite Star Wars character?
It’s so hard to pick just one! I love R2, Obi-Wan, and Leia.
How long have you been creating Star Wars inspired apparel?
I started selling on Etsy in August of 2015. I’ve since switched to using print-on-demand sites like TeePublic and RedBubble.
What are some of your favourite Star Wars fashion items in your wardrobe or wishlist (can be something you’ve made/plan to make)?
I recently bought a pair of the Po-Zu Rey Hi boots. They are super comfortable and subtle enough to wear anywhere. Another favorite is my Elhoffer Design Twilight Dolman. Her pieces are really high-quality.
I used to sell a wide range of all-over print designs, including dresses, sportswear, and sweaters. I want to eventually get back to that.
Do you have any particular favourite Star Wars fashion brands (licensed or fan made)?
I love Her Universe and Elhoffer Design!
Do you have a personal favourite design from your own range of Star Wars inspired apparel?
One of my very first designs was the “Chewdolph the Red-Nosed Wookiee” Sweater, so I’m partial to that one.
How do you decide which Star Wars characters/elements to feature in your designs?
I try to make the designs I would want to wear. I create a lot of designs with female characters because they have historically been so underrepresented.
Your range includes Padme’ Amidala inspired designs – what are your thoughts on the lack of licensed Padme’ Amidala themed apparel?
I don’t get it! Padme is such a style icon! She has some of the best costumes and the ideas for themed apparel are endless!
