Today’s review features the Death Star necklace by Bioworld. I spotted this necklace for sale back at Celebration Anaheim, and loved the design in person. With the release of Rogue One, it is easier to find Death Star themed accessories now than it was a few years ago, but this necklace still rates as one of my favourites.
The Death Star necklace is currently available from a variety of Bioworld stockists, including Amazon, Hot Topic and Entertainment Earth. Shipping rates and polices vary by seller – Hot Topic and Entertainment Earth can ship internationally. Prices correct at time of writing –
- Death Star necklace (Amazon) – US$9.57 to US$14.99 each
- Death Star necklace (Hot Topic) – US$8.90 each
- Death Star necklace (Entertainment Earth) – US$9.99 each
The necklace comes packaged on a Star Wars branded backing card, with the chain tucked into a little pocket in the back. The gunmetal tone necklace features a large disc pendant of the first Death Star, with a brushed metal finish. As an older design, this wasn’t released specifically for Rogue One, but it works perfectly with both A New Hope and Rogue One themed outfits.
The pendant features raised curved lines, to give the impression of a spherical shape, with a glossy dark grey background in the recesses. The detail is crisp and clean, down to the fine lines of the super laser dish. I really love the colour tones of this pendant – perfect choice for the Death Star. Not too silver, not too black – just silently looming, ready to strike.
The pendant measures approximately 35mm across, and 3mm deep. The pendant has a good size and weight to it, it reminds me of a challenge coin in your hand. The back has a brushed metal finish, and is stamped with the standard Lucasfilm copyright text, noting this is a licensed item. There is also a small ‘Made In China’ sticker on the back, which is easily removed. The packaging does not mention what material the necklace is made from, but website listings note it is made from zinc alloy.
The pendant hangs from a matching gunmetal-tone chain, which closes with a lobster claw style clasp. The chain measures approximately 61cm long – I can slip the chain over my head without undoing the clasp. The chain length is not adjustable, but I like the length – it hangs a little lower on the chest, but I prefer a slightly longer length for larger pendants.
While initially released as a classic A New Hope design, this necklace works perfectly with a Rogue One themed outfit as well. The Death Star plays such an important role in the Star Wars story, and this is one of my all-time favourite jewelry versions. Pair it with your favourite Imperial themed outfit and you’ll be ready to conquer the day.
