Today’s review features the Body Vibe x Star Wars logo ring. Part of the early Body Vibe range, this classic logo design ring was originally released in ring sizes 7 to 12, and was later released in size 6 as well. While I don’t wear rings as much as other jewelry such as necklaces, I loved the simple classic Star Wars logo design of this ring – I had to have it.
The Star Wars logo ring is available in ring sizes 6 to 12, and is currently still available from Body Vibe stockists including Amazon. Prices range from US$3.40 to US$29.97 each, depending on ring size and seller (shipping rates/polices vary by seller). Prices correct at time of writing.
Stainless Steel Star Wars logo ring – US$3.40 to US$29.97 each – ring sizes 6 to 12
The ring arrived in a small grey cardboard gift box, with the Star Wars logo printed on the lid. Inside, there was a black satin-coated insert card, which held the ring to stop it from moving around in the box. The insert card notes the ring is made from Stainless Steel. The ring features a classic Star Wars logo with cut-outs, and a simple slender band.
The Star Wars logo cut-out is very crisp, even when viewed up close. There is a slight recess between the top and bottom letters to give them definition without actually cutting them into 2 rows. Keeping the cut-outs to a minimum also helps give the ring a very sturdy feel, without compromising the design. The Star Wars logo sits nicely on top of my finger when worn, easily readable – the ends of the text are not hidden between my fingers.
Many renditions of the Star Wars logo extend the first and last letters to form a border – a classic example is the ‘chrome racetrack’ border of the vintage action figure backing cards. This ring uses that design to create the ring band, with the S, R, W, and S extending to form the ring band. From the back, this gives the appearance of 2 stacked rings, but this line is just an surface detail, not an actual join.
The ring is made from Stainless Steel, with a lovely shiny finish. As you can see in my photos, the surface is very reflective, so it catches the colours of your outfit. I am always a fan of shiny silver-tone jewelry – the colour works so well for Star Wars themes.
The inside of the band is etched with the Lucasfilm copyright text. The etching is very faint, I can hardly make it out in person (it is easier to see enlarged in a photograph). The light etching is not detectable by touch, so it can’t irritate your skin when wearing.
I originally bought the size 7 ring, as that was the smallest size available at the time. It wasn’t until a little while later that the ring was also released in a size 6, my preferred size. While I had purchased the ring again for the smaller sized band, I had no idea there was actually a great deal of visual difference between the sizes. In my comparison photos, the size 7 ring is on the left, and the size 6 ring is on the right.
As well as the smaller band circumference of the size 6, the cut-out Star Wars logo is smaller as well. It makes sense to scale the logo design with the ring size, so that it doesn’t look disproportionate for the largest sizes, but I just hadn’t expected that much difference between the 2 smallest sizes.
The Star Wars logo measures approximately 13mm tall on the size 7 ring, compared to approximately 10mm tall on the size 6 ring. Now 3mm doesn’t sound like much difference, but they look quite different when compared directly. The increased height gives a ‘stretched higher’ appearance to the logo on size 7 ring, as it is not stretched quite as wide to match (the first and last letters would be hidden between your fingers when worn if the logo was wider).
The band around the back is also smaller on the size 6 ring compared to the size 7. This is to be expected, scaling in width with larger ring sizes – the design is available in men’s sizes, which traditionally have wider bands than women’s rings. The band on the size 7 ring measures approximately 4.5mm wide, compared to approximately 3.5mm wide on the size 6 ring. Again the difference sounds very minimal, but it does make quite a visual difference.
I absolutely love this ring – sometimes all you need is the classic Star Wars logo. I personally prefer the design shape of the size 6 ring – it feels a little more slender and feminine than the larger size. Many Star Wars rings come with adjustable bands – it is nice to find a design that is available in the more comfortable ‘closed band’ design, and in women’s sizes.
