I love stores that give vouchers for your birthday, it’s always a nice little extra. In late March, I received a NZ$10.00 birthday voucher from Mighty Ape, and checking my wish list I spotted the Body Vibe X Star Wars Death Star necklace, which was usually NZ$19.99, but was on sale for NZ$9.99! Star Wars jewelry on sale is always great – but with my voucher, it was free! It is now sold out from Mighty Ape, but is available from several sellers on Amazon (prices range from US$10.99 to US$13.99 each).
The necklace came packaged on a branded cardboard jewelry card, with the chain kept nicely in a small plastic pouch on the back. The Death Star cut out pendant necklace is made from stainless steel, and features a flat ‘disc’ Death Star pendant. The Death Star is of course the second version from ‘Return Of The Jedi’ – the right side of the pendant features a cut out as an added detail to the black etched ‘line art’ design. The thin pendant is nice and lightweight, but not flimsy – the back is etched with the standard copyright information ‘(c) & TM Lucasfilm Ltd. S.Steel’. The pendant measures approximately 3cm across, while the non-adjustable chain measures approximately 47cm long, and closes with a standard ‘lobster’ style clasp.
While both versions of the Death Star appear on apparel quite frequently, they are not as often used for accessories. I really like this simple design, it’s not as ‘bling’ as the Death Star jewelry mini-collection available from Thinkgeek, but more recognizably ‘Death Star’ – I’m sure it will get lots of use in my wardrobe.
