During my trip to Anaheim for the Run Disney Star Wars event in January, I had the opportunity to check out The World of Disney store in Downtown Disney. Amongst the great range of Star Wars fashion available was a great selection of Disney Star Wars jewelry, and I couldn’t resist picking up a few items from the collection.
Today’s review features the Disney x Star Wars logo heart necklace. During my visit in January, the necklace was priced at US$11.99 each (plus tax), in Disney’s ‘yellow’ jewelry price category. Neither the necklace or the tag carry any mention of the material the chain or pendant is made from, so I’m not sure. Unfortunately this necklace isn’t available from the online Disney Store, but try checking eBay as there are sellers who often stock park-only merchandise.
The Star Wars logo heart necklace came packaged on a small cardboard jewelry backing card, with a gold Star Wars logo against a starry background print on the front. The backing card has ‘Mickey ears’ at the top, which is a fun touch. The necklace chain is held at both sides through small slots in the cardboard, with the rest of the chain held securely in a small plastic pouch on the back of the card (slightly hidden by the barcode/price category sticker).
The necklace features a heart shaped black pendant, with a recessed Star Wars logo on the front, filled with white enamel. I did notice a few of these necklaces had slightly untidy white enamel sections, so it helped that I was able to choose one in person, just to check. The pendant features two rings on each upper side, to attach to two silver-tone chains. This ‘two chain’ style of necklace means the pendant doesn’t swing when worn – also, having a central hanger ring would hide the top of the heart, so I much prefer having the rings at the side. The ‘heart’ shape isn’t often used for Star Wars necklaces, outside of ‘best friend’ style split pendants, or else it features a specific character within the heart – I love the use of the heart for just the Star Wars logo, as it covers everything!
The chain of this necklace is one of the smallest link chain I have seen on Star Wars necklaces, it is very fine and ‘dainty’. The adjustment chain has much larger links, and ends with a small silver-tone ‘Mickey ears’ shaped pendant. The necklace clasp is a silver-tone ‘lobster’ style clasp.
The pendant measures approximately 27mm across, and 25mm tall (at the widest points). Each of the two chains measure approximately 19cm each – the full necklace (including clasp and pendant) measures approximately 41.5cm long, with a 8cm further of adjustment chain. This is actually quite a short necklace – it sits around the collar bone area when worn. As the necklace comes with the chain packaged behind the card, it is not obvious how short it is before buying. Personally I don’t find it too short, it’s nice to have a little variety in my necklace collection – but something to note if you prefer long chain necklace styles, as ‘two-chain’ style pendants are harder to swap out to a different chain length/style.
The back of the pendant is stamped with ‘(c) LFL’, while the small ‘Mickey ears’ pendant at the end of the adjustment chain is stamped with ‘(c) Disney’, both noting this is a licensed Disney x Star Wars item. As much as I wish I could have bought the entire Star Wars jewelry range at The World of Disney store, this was definitely one of my favourites. The fine chain and heart shape of the pendant give this necklace a feminine style, whereas many of the other Disney x Star Wars necklaces had a more unisex feel (especially those with ‘ball chain’ style chains). The shorter length means you can wear this with blouses and tops with a higher neckline – and as I often say, sometimes all you need is the classic Star Wars logo.
