In April, Forever 21 added this women’s Star Wars dress to their website, and it was in my shopping cart instantly! The bold black and white design reminded me of one of my favourite Star Wars bodycon dresses – the AT-AT dress by Black Milk Clothing. Sadly Black Milk Clothing discontinued their Star Wars license in March 2015, and these days it is not common to find Star Wars bodycon dresses from other brands.
The women’s Star Wars graphic knit dress is priced at US$19.90 each, and is currently available in all sizes – S, M, and L. Forever 21 can ship internationally, which is great.
The Forever 21 ‘Star Wars graphic knit dress’ features a bodycon style fit, and a high neckline with plain black collar. The fabric is 95% cotton, 5% spandex/elastane, so it’s lovely and soft with good stretch. The dress is made from printed fabric, rather than an all-over print on top of base fabric – so the pattern stretches with the fabric, and won’t crack. The pattern features the ‘heads’ of C-3PO and R2-D2, in white against a black background. I bought mine in size small – it measures approximately 36.5cm across the chest (underarm to underarm), 36cm across the lower hem, and 75cm from front neckline to front lower hem.
The bold contrast of this pattern goes so well with a bodycon style – a figure hugging dress gives an air of confidence, and the print shouts Star Wars. I find many Star Wars dresses these days have a conservative feel, and while this has wide appeal, it is not everyone’s style. I miss the sexy and confident attitude of the Black Milk Clothing x Star Wars collection – for women who are proud of their figure (regardless of size) and love of Star Wars, and aren’t afraid to show both. While many fans do prefer subtlety in their wardrobe, there are others – like me – who want to show their love of Star Wars loud and proud. That’s what I love about this dress – it conveys confidence. Pair this with some killer heels and you’re set.
