I made use of the Black Friday sale at We Love Fine to pick up a few items I had been keeping an eye on – including this tie-back top from Goldie. The Goldie range is usually excluded from discount codes, so it was nice to grab this top at 5% off. It usually retails for US$30, I paid US$28.50. I bought mine in a size small (it is available in sizes s through xl). It measures approximately 48cm across the lower hem (lying flat).
At first I was a little disappointed in the top – the edges are all raw, not finished in the usual seams. The fabric is very thin, which I wasn’t expecting – but the more I thought about it, the edges and fabric make perfect sense for this style. It’s open sides and back mean it’s designed to be worn over a singlet/bandeau top etc. in an summer/exercise type of style, and a heavy fabric doesn’t make sense for that purpose. The raw edges mean the top has a lovely light drape, lessening it’s bulk. The print on this shirt very nearly touches the edges of the fabric – there may be a bigger gap on the larger sized tops. The back features a knot tied in the strap, again adding to it’s casual ‘cut up a t-shirt for exercise’ style. It features the embossed plastic Goldie patch on the back, although mine is sewn a little off level. Overall, I was initially surprised at the lack of seams for a $30 top, but it’s a really neat summer-weight top perfect for rocking some Star Wars pride at the gym.
