I’ve always been a huge fan of lightsaber-themed accessories, and when the first teaser trailer for ‘The Force Awakens’ revealed the cross-guard lightsaber, I was already hoping for a necklace version! Kylo Ren was already a favorite character in my household before we saw the film, so when Han Cholo released this necklace featuring his lightsaber, it was instantly on my wish list!

The Kylo Ren lightsaber necklace comes packaged in a ‘drawer-style’ black gift box, which features an all-over starry sky background, with the Star Wars and Han Cholo logos embossed in silver on the front. The back of the box has smaller logos printed in white, this time with website addresses, together with the Disney logo and the text ‘For Ages Cool And Up’. The pendant sits on a foam square inside the box (the foam has a black velvet top layer), with the rest of the chain length tucked behind.
The necklace features a 3D sculpt of Kylo Ren’s ‘crossguard’ lightsaber from ‘The Force Awakens’. The necklace was initially released in December last year – first in a sterling silver version, then shortly afterwards in a stainless steel version. The sterling silver version features gold plating/vermeil on the blade – while the stainless steel version has a red blade. Personally, I prefer the black/red version – the anodized look of the red really stands out.
One of the first things I noticed is that this necklace is black – in the Han Cholo promotional photos, it appears grey (they seem to have lightened the photos more to show the sculpt detail). It is most definitely black in person, and it’s the perfect choice for a Kylo Ren jewelry item. The red blade is fantastic in person, and really catches the sunlight.
The pendant measures approximately 75mm long, and 25mm across at the widest point (the ‘crossguard’ blades). As with other lightsaber jewelry items, the main blade is slightly shorter for the scale of the hilt, but the length is appropriate for a pendant.
The blades are quite thin, but even with pressure, I couldn’t bend them. The whole lighsaber pendant is very sturdy, which is really nice to see. The ends of the lightsaber blades are pointed, but not sharp enough to cut on their own without force – though I wouldn’t wear this necklace with delicate fabrics that can snag easily. To me, this matches the saber perfectly – Kylo Ren’s temper leads him to use his weapon on objects around him, so I like to think it’s unwise to put anything delicate near his lightsaber! Also, due to it’s shape, I probably wouldn’t wear this necklace through airport security… it would be a terrible shame to have a fantastic piece of Star Wars jewelry confiscated by overcautious security personnel.
The other Han Cholo x Star Wars necklaces I own (like the Stormtrooper necklace and R2-D2 necklace) have a round logo hanger, which the necklace chain runs through to hang the pendant from – but for this necklace, the chain runs directly through the end of the lightsaber hilt. The pendant has a small cut-out section, that eliminates the need for a hanger – the perfect choice for a pendant of this style. A logo hanger works with the chunkier 3D sculpted pendants, but this lightsaber pendant is much more slender, and I really like the design choice to simply have the lightsaber hang directly from the chain.
I find it interesting that the unique Han Cholo chain (with it’s rectangular links) is smaller on this necklace, compared to my other Han Cholo x Star Wars necklaces. This balances very well with the slender lightsaber pendant, and lets it fit through the hilt cut-out easily. While I love my older Han Cholo x Star Wars designs, their ‘chunkier’ chain design does give them a more masculine/unisex style. You can see the two chain sizes in my comparison photo above, with my Han Cholo Stormtrooper necklace for reference.
The necklace chain measures approximately 78cm long, and ends with a standard ‘lobster’ style clasp. The chain end features a small tag which is stamped with the Han Cholo logo on one side, and the Star Wars logo on the other side. The length of the chain means I can easily fit this over my head without opening the clasp – it is definitely a ‘long chain’ style necklace.
I loved this necklace from the promotional photos, and it’s even better in person. It’s the perfect accessory for any Kylo Ren-themed outfit – and a stunning standalone jewelry item for any Dark Side acolyte.
