Back in November, Spencers added this new Darth Vader cut-out necklace to their website. While it’s true I already own a variety of Darth Vader necklaces, most are 3D sculpt versions, and I love a new take on a classic idea. Making use of a website promotion, I bought this necklace along with the matching Star Wars logo cut-out necklace.
When it arrived, I was excited to see that this necklace is made by Loungefly! I’m a huge fan of their Star Wars handbag range, and I also own a few earlier Loungefly x Star Wars necklaces, so it’s nice to add another one to that collection. The necklace is still available from Spencers, and is priced at US$12.99 each (Spencers can ship internationally).
The necklace came packaged on a black cardboard jewelry backing card, with the chain neatly tucked into a clear plastic pocket on the back. The card features the standard Star Wars branding on the front and back, along with the Loungefly logo on the back. Neither the card or the Spencers website note what material the necklace is made from, so I’m not sure.
The necklace features a central pendant of Darth Vader’s helmet, in a flat stencil style cut-out design. The pendant has a very shiny finish, which catches the light very well, despite the lack of surface area. The cut-out details are crisp and clear, even for the smallest details like the breather area. Most of the front is flat, except for three small indented lines on the ‘nose’ area, recreating the detail of the helmet design.
Some cut-out pendants tend to feel a little prone to bending, but that is certainly not the case here, it’s very sturdy. It’s a great way to create a larger size pendant, without it becoming too heavy – this is a lovely mid-weight necklace. The pendant measures approximately 40mm tall, 39mm wide, and 2mm deep (at the widest parts, not including hanger ring). The necklace chain measures approximately 54.5cm long (including clasp), with a further 8cm of adjustment chain. The clasp is a standard ‘lobster’ style clasp, which closes nicely with a good spring. The back of the pendant is stamped with ‘(c) LFL’, noting this is a licensed item.
I love how brilliant this necklace looks when worn against black – the silver really stands out, and the cut-outs show the black underneath, becoming part of the design. Of course this necklace looks great worn with any colour, or against skin, as the simple design works with so many styling options. The size of the pendant gives this more of a statement piece feel, but it’s not overpowering. I think this design would work quite well used slightly smaller as dangle earrings, the silver-tone finish catches the light nicely with movement.
I love having a Darth Vader necklace that is not black, meaning it can stand out against a black-toned sith/imperial themed outfit nicely, so I know I’ll get lots of use from this necklace.
