Today’s review features the Loungefly x Star Wars Rey zip-up wallet. Available at Fun.com, this faux leather wallet features an everyday cosplay design inspired by Rey’s ‘jedi training’ outfit from The Last Jedi. I was so excited to see Loungefly release Rey inspired bags and wallets – this wallet and matching mini backpack (also available at Fun) were on my wish list the moment I saw them!
Wouldn’t it be nice to know that you can roll with the punches as well as the legendary Star Wars heroine? You’ll be ready to go as you tuck your wallet into your purse no matter what might happen! The wallet is eight inches wide and four inches tall so it can fit plenty of cards, bills, and even a small phone!
The wallet is priced at US$36.99 each – Fun can ship internationally, which is great!
Loungefly Rey Zip-Up Wallet – US$36.99 each
The wallet came in a clear plastic bag, with a Loungefly x Star Wars cardboard tag attached to the zipper pull. The wallet is made from 100% polyurethane faux leather, with 100% polyester fabric lining. The wallet measures approximately 20.5cm wide, 10.5cm high, and 2.5cm deep – a standard sized women’s wallet.
The wallet features details inspired by Rey’s ‘jedi training’ outfit from The Last Jedi. The front design includes the crossing front tabbards, the dark under tunic, and pale arm wraps. The colours used here are a little warmer, a little more brown toned that the greys of Rey’s costume, but the brown tones feel more recognisably Rey and her original Jakku scavenger outfit.
The central design feature on the front of the wallet is a faux leather appliqued patch of the Resistance ‘starbird’ symbol. The symbol is slightly embossed, and printed in black against the circular dark brown faux leather patch. The patch is top stitched in black thread, which coordinates with the top stitching used through the design.
The outer design features rows of top stitching in contrasting black thread. These lines resemble details from the original costume – the layers of fabric wrapped around Rey’s arms (the pale section down the side of the wallet), and the gathers of draped fabric of the tabbards (the diagonal lines on the overlapping brown section). The top stitching creates a quilted effect – the ‘shirt’ section in particular ‘puffs’ up a little in between the lines of stitching.
The zip-around wallet features a brown zipper with gunmetal-coloured metal ‘teeth’. The zipper forms the sides of the wallet, giving it depth – this wallet can hold a decent amount inside. I can easily fit an average sized smart phone, as well as cash, cards and receipts. You can use this wallet as a small clutch, if you don’t want to hide it away inside a handbag.
The zipper pull features the Loungefly logo embossed on both sides. The silver-tone metal zipper pull has a weathered finish, which works perfectly with the Rey inspiration – you wouldn’t find anything shiny and polished on Jakku. The zipper pull is easy to grasp, and slides easily around the wallet.
The back of the wallet is also inspired by Rey’s costume – this time the design features Rey’s belt, with two strips of brown faux leather. The lighter brown background has vertical black thread top stitched lines (to resemble the back of Rey’s tabbards), and the side panel of pale faux leather is referencing Rey’s arm wraps.
The back of the wallet also features the classic Loungefly x Star Wars metal logo plaque, mounted on top of a small rectangle of brown leather on the ‘belt’ detail. As with the zipper pull, this plaque has a dark antiqued finish, rather than the shiny silver-tone used on many other Loungefly x Star Wars items. Even the black recessed background has a matte finish, instead of the black glossy-finish enamel often used.
The Rey wallet has a zip-around design, with the top zip extending down both sides. This keeps the wallet from opening up completely flat (like a dome-closure folding wallet), so the internal space between sides becomes usable pocket space.
When fully open, the wallet has internal sides, so you can keep items in the open pocket areas (like a phone), without having to worry about something falling out the sides when grabbing your cards or cash. These sides are made from the same dark faux leather as the ‘undershirt’ portion of the front wallet design.
Inside, there are lots of compartments for storing all your cards and cash. There are two card pocket compartments with 4 card slots each (total of 8 card slots), a zip-up compartment, and two bill pockets (one on each side, behind the card slots). The card slots are made from dark faux leather, while the bill pockets and zip-up compartement are lined with black lining fabric featuring a repeating Star Wars logo design.
I love the details of a Loungefly item – the inner compartment zipper pull features a little Loungefly logo on both sides. This innner zipper pull is smaller than one used for the main zipper, but it is quite easy and comfortable to grasp. The top outer edges of the zip-up compartment feature a strip of dark faux leather, which helps keep this compartment nice and straight for easy zip movement.
The interior of the zip-up compartment is lined with the Star Wars logo fabric, even though this is an place you’ll hardly look at close enough to notice. The zip-up compartment runs the interior length of the wallet, so it can hold a reasonable of cash/coins. Even though I don’t use cash very often, having a secure place to store coins in is always a feature I look for in a wallet.
While I already own quite a few Loungefly x Star Wars wallets, this is my first from their popular Star Wars costume-inspired range. The human ‘face’ characters tend to be featured less often in Star Wars accessories, in favour of characters like Darth Vader and R2-D2 with classic recognisable details. I am so happy to see Loungefly include Rey in their range – she is a main character after all, and the perfect choice for accessories designed for women. I know I’ll be getting so much use from this Rey wallet!
