Today’s review features the Love And Madness x Star Wars 3D Darth Vader long necklace. Part of the ‘doorknocker’ range, the long chain necklace features an impressive 3d sculpted pendant of Darth Vader’s helmet. A classic theme for Star Wars necklaces, this version is a refreshing change from the usual design. With its gorgeous dark finish and unique style, this Darth Vader necklace has become a regular addition to my wardrobe.
The necklace is available direct from Love And Madness, priced at US$50.00 each – they can ship internationally, which is great!
Darth Vader 3D long ‘doorknocker’ necklace – US$50.00 each
The necklace came packaged in a black satin drawstring bag, with the Star Wars and Love And Madness logos printed in silver on both sides. This is a lovely presentation, perfect for giving as a gift – or as a little treat for yourself! The necklace itself features a long dark-tone chain, with a 3D sculpted pendant of Darth Vader’s helmet.
The 3D pendant captures all the fine details of Darth Vader’s helmet. The sculpt is fantastic, but one of the first things that struck me was the colour. This necklace isn’t black as you might expect for Darth Vader – it is actually a gorgeous dark metallic colour, like a really dark silver or gunmetal. It is a little hard to truly capture the real colour in photographs, this necklace is just amazing in person.
The finish is so glossy, it has an almost ‘oil slick’ effect, catching the light across the shiny surface. The dark metallic colour gives the necklace a much more luxe feel than flat black – when wearing an eye-catching necklace like this, you want it to stand out for all the right reasons.
Another fantastic feature, if you look closely – they have even included the collar details on the back of the neck! Tucked away under the helmet flare at the back, this detail is hardly seen, so it is impressive that Love And Madness have included it in their sculpt. The underside also features the standard Lucasfilm copyright mark ‘© LFL’, noting this is a licensed item.
The matching dark metallic necklace chain measures approximately 82cm in length, with a further 7.5cm of adjustment chain. The clasp is a dark metallic ‘lobster-style’ clasp, matching the necklace colour – I really like the shape Love And Madness uses for their necklace clasps.
The adjustment chain features 2 small pendants, in the same dark metallic colour as the necklace – a small ‘heart’ shape pendant with the letter ‘M’ (the logo for Love And Madness), while the end of the adjustment chain features a small Star Wars logo pendant.
Like other Love And Madness necklaces, the chain is adjustable in length, but not in the usual way – instead of having a short additional length of wider loop chain, this necklace has 3 rings evenly spaced at the end of the necklace chain. This is quite unique, I have not seen this detail from other Star Wars jewelry brands. The chain between the rings is slightly larger than the necklace chain – while I technically can fit the clasp on the adjustment chain, it is intended for you to use the 3 larger rings.
The Star Wars pendant measures approximately 15mm by 7mm, while the heart pendant measures approximately 10mm by 11mm. The heart pendant is double sided (same on both sides), while the back of the Star Wars pendant is flat, with the Lucasfilm copyright stamp ‘© LFL’. The end of a necklace isn’t usually very visible when wearing, but I always appreciate little extra details like this.
With a necklace of this length, you don’t need a lot of adjustment – set it to your favourite length, and you’re good. The chain length is more than you need to fit it over your head without undoing the clasp (useful if you’re like me and often struggling to do up small clasps in a hurry!). You can also wear the chain around your neck twice, for a shorter, double necklace look – it is always great to have more than one way to style your accessories!
The pendant is really something to behold in person – it is definitely my largest Star Wars necklace pendant, but it is still very comfortable to wear. It does have a bit of weight to it, but I don’t notice it while wearing – the necklace (including chain) weights approximately 60g.
The larger size gives the pendant a ‘presence’ befitting the famous Sith Lord. The pendant measures approximately 4cm high, 3.3cm wide, and 3.2cm deep. It appears that the helmet is crafted in 2 pieces (face plate and top dome), so there are no visible seams or joins on the exterior to distract from the gorgeous finish.
Darth Vader’s helmet isn’t exactly a unique idea for a necklace (appearing in the very first Star Wars jewelry collection back in 1977), but Love and Madness have taken a classic idea and given it a fresh new perspective. The 3D sculpt is absolutely fantastic, and the long chain style is fun and versatile. Love And Madness continue to impress fans with their creative designs and quality products – I can’t wait to see what Star Wars jewelry they will release in the future!
