Today’s review features the women’s Star Wars ‘More Powerful Than You Know’ tank top made by Mad Engine. I always like having a little Star Wars inspiration for my workouts, and the bold text design of this tank top has definitely helped me push through at the gym!
Bring the power of the force to your workouts with this tank, inspired by the iconic Star Wars franchise. It even features an open back for a flirty, feminine look that’s sure to turn some heads!
The tank top is still available at Box Lunch, in sizes M to XL. It is usually priced at US$17.99 each, but is currently on sale for only US$14.39 each – Box Lunch can ship internationally.

The teal colour tank top features a Star Wars themed text print on the front, and an interesting cut-out back. The fabric is 60% cotton, 40% polyester – it feels light and soft, great for a workout top. I love the colour, feels feminine without being too girly (I personally love pink, but I appreciate designs like this for fans that aren’t fond of the colour).
The text on the front reads ‘More Powerful Than You Know’, printed in black and white, with emphasis on ‘Powerful’. It is quite a subtle Star Wars design, with the Rebel Alliance symbol (as the ‘O’ in ‘You’) being the only obvious hint of Star Wars.
While the phrase makes me think of Kylo Ren’s words about Rey in The Force Awakens, he actually says “She is strong with the Force! Untrained, but stronger than she knows!”. It seems to be a bit of a blend, combining Kylo Ren’s words with those of Obi-Wan Kenobi in A New Hope – “If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine”. In any case, it is a great motivational phrase for a workout top!
One of my favourite parts of this tank top is the back – it’s not often I can say that! The back straps are twisted around, forming a rope-like shape. The cut-out back is literally cut-out, with raw edges. This type of fabric does not require overlocking/serging, so it can be left raw without a seam. This gives a lighter finished feel to the fabric, which works well for the purpose of the open back – a looser free fit to keep you cool.
The wide dropped armholes do have a seamed edge, leading up to the shoulder seam, so it sits nice and flat across your shoulders when worn. The side seams have a short slit at the bottom, which measures approximately 11cm long. This also helps give the tank top a loose casual fit, rather than fitting snug around your hips. My tank top is a size small – it measures approximately 29cm across the shoulders, 41cm across at the dropped armholes, and 46.5cm across the lower hem.
The open back is perfect for wearing with a crop top or sports bra with an interesting back detail (like crossing straps). One of my favourites is the Forever 21 x Star Wars sports crop – it coordinates perfectly with this tank top, the open back shows the Star Wars back straps perfectly.
This tank top is a regular in my gym wardrobe – always great to find comfortable workout gear that mixes Star Wars and motivation! It is summer here in New Zealand at the moment, so I’m definitely enjoying keeping cooler during my gym sessions!
