While fashion designers have often drawn from Star Wars as inspiration for a runway collection, it is much rarer to see actual licensed pieces. One well known example is Preen by Thornton Bregazzi, who released a Star Wars collection in February 2014. Preen’s range was stocked by a number of stores worldwide, giving fans and fashionistas the chance to purchase runway fashion featuring Darth Vader. I was very fortunate to be able to purchase two items direct from Preen late last year (the ‘Darth’ shirt and ‘Padme’ shirt). Considering the price point of designer garments, I never imagined being able to add any more Preen x Star Wars items to my wardrobe – but recently I picked up one of their sweatshirts on ebay. Being a designer item, this sweatshirt originally retailed for US$615.
The cotton-jersey sweatshirt features the fantastic Darth Vader helmet print used throughout the collection. I love the details of Luke Skywalker reflected in the helmet’s lens and the surrounding TIE fighters and X-Wing fighter. The front and sleeves also feature the distinctive geometric pattern from Preen’s Fall/Winter 2014 collection. I love the blue inserts in the sleeve cuffs, which are a different fabric to the black used for the cuffs and lower band.
The garment tag inside notes the sweatshirt is 60% cotton, 40% polyester – dry clean only as I expected. I bought this slouch-style sweatshirt in size XS, which measures approximately 65cm across the chest (underarm to underarm) and 44.5cm across the lower edge. I absolutely love it, it’s so amazing to be able to add another Preen by Thornton Bregazzi item to my collection.
