Today’s review features the Princess Leia engraved wood stud earrings by ImpactEngraving. Available on Etsy, the earrings are laser engraved from birch plywood, featuring a cute ’emoji’ style design of Princess Leia in her classic A New Hope hairstyle.
Laser engraved Princess Leia’s face is glued securely to metal posts with rubber backs. Leia is laser cut from FSC certified 3 mm birch plywood. Metal posts are nickel free.

Princess Leia engraved wood stud earrings – US$7.66 per pair
The earrings came wrapped in white tissue paper. I was a little surprised to see that these were not in a small box – the earring posts were unfortunately bent sideways from shipping. These did have to travel a fair way in the mail (Canada to US to New Zealand), so protective packaging is always important to me. Thankfully I was able to carefully bend the posts straight again.
The earrings are laser engraved, made from 3mm thick birch plywood – they measure approximately 1.4cm high and 1.4cm across. The design features Leia’s classic bun hairstyle, with a pale face area, 2 dot eyes, and a slightly darker hair area. The hair and eyes are slightly recessed compared to the face area, so there is a subtle 3D texture to the design. The cut outer edges are a darker brown than the surface, which helps define and frame the shape.
The wood does not have a clear coat etc, so personally I wouldn’t get these fully wet (like wearing while swimming) or expose them to something that could stain, like a marker pen. I suppose you could hand paint these if you liked, but I really like the subtle wood grain texture. Though of course I would love to see this design available in a variety of materials like gold or silver – I always believe one can never have too much Leia jewelry! 🙂
The silver tone (nickel free) metal earring posts are glued onto the back of each earring. The earring posts are nicely placed at the same point of each earring, so they sit symmetrically when worn. There is more excess glue visible on the back of one earring than the other, but this of course doesn’t effect the function or look of the earring. The earring backs are the clear rubber style, which have a good grip. The earring posts measure approximately 1cm long – a good comfortable length for wearing.
I love these cute little Princess Leia earrings, I’m so happy to add them to my collection. I have seen this ’emoji’ style Princess Leia design used by both licensed companies (primarily Love And Madness) and fan labels, though I am not sure where it appeared first. In any case I am glad to see Princess Leia being included in more jewelry designs – too often she is left out despite being a main character!
