Released around May 2014, the Red Rebel circle skirt from Her Universe was one item I nearly missed out on. Living outside the US, I can only buy from Her Universe by using a mail redirection service. With that added expense (and currency exchange rates never in my favour), it’s a costly mistake if I order the wrong size. The item description noted that the skirt lining was fitted, and shoppers may want to size up – but I took so long trying to decide on which size to order, it slipped my mind, until just recently. This year for ‘May The Fourth’ Her Universe celebrated with a sale of up to 60% off selected items, so of course I checked if there was anything on sale I wanted. Luckily the Rebel Alliance skirt was still there, and on sale for US$20 (original retail was US$35). With only selected sizes still available, I decided to take a chance on ordering my usual size.
When it arrived, all my worries were put to rest – I love it! The background colour is darker than I was expecting – as you can see in my photos, it’s much more gray than it appears in the photos on Her Universe’s website. I don’t mind the colour, I actually prefer it – more practical than white and the red/gray combination reminds me of X-wings. The Rebel Alliance symbols on the printed fabric are nice and clear, with a very subtle darker border around each symbol. As noted in the website description, the lining is more fitted than the outer skirt but the lining fabric does have stretch, it is a lovely soft t-shirt-type material. The Her Universe website notes the fabric as 60% cotton, 40% polyester – but the printed garment details note the fabric is 96% polyester, 4% spandex. I ordered the size small – the waist band measures approximately 33cm across, and the skirt measures approximately 43.5cm long from waistband to hem. The hem of the lining measures approximately 42cm across, and 33cm long from waist band to hem. I think it’s a fantastic skirt, and I’m so glad I was able to grab one before they sold out.
