Today’s review features the Han Solo inspired Millennium Purse by Sent From Mars. I have admired the fabulous handmade handbags by Sent From Mars for ages, especially her Star Wars inspired designs. I love the thoughtful use of embellishments to recreate details from the original inspiration.
Sent From Mars has begun offering factory-made runs of some of her popular Star Wars inspired handbags, which means she can offer some of her most popular designs at a lower price point – which is fantastic! I love seeing fan fashion brands expanding and offering factory-made production runs. Stay tuned as Sent From Mars will be offering her adorable BB-8 inspired clutch as a factory-made run soon too!

The Millennium Purse by Sent From Mars includes a Han Solo inspired clutch handbag, detachable wrist wrap, and detachable adjustable shoulder strap. The bag and straps are made from faux leather, with silver-tone metal hardware. The bag has a main zippered compartment, and one internal zippered pocket.
The purse measures approximately 23cm by 18.5cm. This is a great size for holding your phone, wallet, keys – without being too bulky to carry in your hands as a clutch. The size works well for the scale of the front design – too small and the belt details would get lost.
The front design is inspired by Han Solo’s costume – white undershirt, black vest, black belt, and brown holster belt. This design is accomplished with applique’ panels, such as the panels on the black ‘vest’ portion to represent the pockets, and gunmetal-tone pyramid shaped studs on the ‘belt’ panels. The panels are all top-stitched in matching colour thread, except for the middle top portion of the white faux leather panel, where the black ‘vest’ stitching overlaps.
The small black and silver panel on the lower right represents the droid caller device on Han’s holster – great to see this small detail included! Multiple sizes of pyramid studs are used for this purse – the smallest on the ‘droid caller’, medium sized studs on the black ‘belt’, and the largest on the brown ‘holster’ section. The stud are securely fastened, and don’t move/rattle.
I love the mix of faux leather textures used in the front design. The belt and holster sections are created with a ‘pebbled’ textured faux leather, as these are representing real leather items on the original costume. The black ‘vest’ is created from a black suede-like faux leather, and the white ‘undershirt’ is created from a very smooth white faux leather. As a costumer, I appreciate that the different fabrics of the original costume inspiration are thoughtfully represented here with similar textures.
The left side seam features a small woven label tag featuring the text ‘From Mars’ on one side. The text is covered with a small clear plastic section, stitched over top – with a cute little holographic star over the ‘Mars’. You are sure to get compliments when you go out with a Sent From Mars bag – the little touches of branding let people know who made it and where they can get their own!
The purse closes with a black plastic zipper across the top. The silver-tone metal zipper pull is a great shape and size for grasping against your thumb – an easy-to-pull zipper is such an attractive feature of any handbag.
Keeping with the star detail theme, the zipper pull is custom! Yes, the attention to detail is just amazing! The custom zipper pull features a star-shaped cutout, and the text ‘Sent From Mars’ recessed into both sides. It is almost like a little dangling charm, it’s just so cute!
The back of the purse is made from black textured faux leather, which is also used for the front ‘belt’ detail as well as detachable straps. The lack of embellishments on the back keeps the bag free from textures than can snag on fabrics while wearing. I appreciate not having to worry about putting my bag down on surfaces when I’m out and about – while the front includes a white panel and metal pyramid studs, a plain back is perfect for resting on a table or against your outfit.
Inside, the purse is lined with black fabric printed with little white stars. This coordinates nicely with a Star Wars inspired design – and ties in the the cute little star accents on the zipper-pull and logo tag. There is also a zippered pocket in the lining, made from the same starry fabric, and closes with a black plastic zipper with silver-tone metal zipper pull. The inner pocket zipper pull is smaller than the main compartment zipper pull, and does not feature any custom details (as it’s on the inside, where only you will see it).
I really like this lining fabric – it is not thin or ‘slippery’ like in some purses. It’s not fun having handbag lining that shifts around while you’re trying to find your keys! This lining fabric holds it shape well, and the starry print reminds me of looking up at the stars – just like Han Solo does from the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon.
As mentioned earlier, this bag comes with both a wrist strap and shoulder strap, so you can carry it as a clutch, wristlet, shoulder purse, or even crossbody bag – like four bags in one! I love my collection of Star Wars clutches, but sometimes I just want something with a strap to be more hands-free – this purse can be both!
There is a silver-tone metal D-Ring on each side of the purse, attached by a loop of top-stitched black faux leather. The rings are for attaching the straps – you can attach the wrist strap on either side, depending on preference/dominant hand, which is great versatility. You could even add you own dangly charm from the D-Rings as well (Chewbacca fluffy pom pom anyone?).
Both the shoulder strap and wrist strap feature silver-tone metal pull-back clips, to attach onto the D-Rings on the purse. These are sturdy clips, which open and close nicely. Quality hardware is so important to the life of a handbag, as these are the major points of stress during use.
This purse is so much more than a clutch. The included straps convert the bag from clutch, to wristlet, to handbag, to crossbody bag! I love the adaptability to suit your preference – it adds great value for money. Both the wrist and shoulder strap are made from black textured faux leather, which is double layered for strength and top stitched.
Approximate strap measurements –
- Shoulder strap – 2.5cm wide, 87cm shortest length (including clips), adjustable up to 153cm in length.
- Wrist strap – 2cm wide, 27.5cm in length (including clip), 35.5cm internal loop circumference.
No such thing as a plain handbag strap here! The shoulder strap features a gunmetal-tone pyramid shaped studs at each ends, coordinating with the stud accents on the handbag. The wrist strap also features a pyramid stud, just beneath the clip. These studs are riveted on, attached all the way through the strap.
The inside of the straps also includes a great detail – metallic silver strapping! This is great reinforcement, and feels great when wearing. Plus it’s so pretty! It is especially noticeable when wearing the shoulder strap longer, when the bag is hanging at your side. Again, I just love the attention to detail with this bag.
This is such a thoughtfully designed bag – from the subtle applique’ details on the front, to the straps and custom zipper pull, everything has been carefully chosen. While I already owned quite a few Han Solo fashion items, I didn’t own a Han Solo themed handbag – a glaring gap that had to fixed! With the recent release of Solo, this is the perfect handbag to pair with your Han Solo themed outfits – or any outfit! I can always use a little more stylish rogue chic in my wardrobe!
