In early October last year, Thinkgeek added this Darth Vader tapestry dress to their website. Made by Mighty Fine, this dress is exclusive to Thinkgeek and is priced at US$44.99 each. It features the same tapestry-style print as the Darth Vader tapestry leggings also available from Thinkgeek – except this version has red accents. The dress was available in sizes S to 3X – though at time of writing, only sizes S and M are currently in stock.
The Darth Vader tapestry dress features a scoop neckline, short cap sleeves and A line skirt section. The dress is made from 94% cotton, 6% spandex – so it has a good amount of stretch. The dress is sewn from grey fabric with a black print, so the design stretches well with the fabric – though the grey background will show through the black design if stretched to maximum. It looks like the red details are printed over the top, so these sections could be a little more prone to ‘cracking’ – but these are small portions, and they do seem to stretch well. The print is a Darth Vader themed tapestry-style design, which includes Darth Vader’s helmet, the Imperial symbol, the Death Star, Stormtoopers, Star Destroyers, lightsabers, and TIE Fighters. I love the detailed print – a little more subtle than ‘everyday cosplay’ style dresses, but still has clear Star Wars details when you look closer. I would love to see this dress in a matching Rebel Alliance print!
I bought mine in size S – it measures approximately 40cm across the chest (underarm to underarm), approximately 33cm across the waist seam, and approximately 47cm from waist seam to front hem (down the front). The waist seam has a thin strip of elastic sewn into the seam, to retain it’s shape, but it’s not too tight or restricting. I’m so happy to have this dress in my wardrobe – I can pair it with black accessories for a subtle look, or add some extra Star Wars touches like a Darth Vader handbag and Imperial earrings.
