Review – Torrid Star Wars charm necklace

Torrid - SG@NYC Star Wars charm necklace

In November last year, Torrid added a range of new Star Wars items to their website, which included this Star Wars charm necklace. Usually priced at US$24.50 each, I paid US$14.70 during a 40% off sale. I didn’t own any ‘charm cluster’ style necklaces before buying this one – I’m usually more drawn to single pendant designs, but I love the added sparkles. It’s fun to try out different styles you wouldn’t usually buy – especially when they’re on sale!

The necklace came packaged with a plain white cardboard backing card, with the usual Star Wars branding used on a small tag instead. As usual, I I’m always keen to see which company made this necklace – while my first thought was Bioworld, it was actually made by SG@NYC, which also made the Star Wars ‘bling’ jewelry sold by HSN. There was also a small white Torrid item tag attached, with price and description.

The Star Wars charm necklace features a central ring, with clear rhinestones on the front. From the ring, hang a variety of charms/decorations, including rhinestone strips, small chains, and of course, the 4 Star Wars charms. The charms are R2-D2 (with black rhinestone strip), C-3PO, Darth Vader (with clear rhinestone strip), and the black enamel Star Wars logo (with cluster of short chains). The back of each pendant is stamped with ‘(C)’ LFL, noting this is a licensed item – and the three character charms are hollow backed to reduce weight. The sculpting on the charms is well don – the R2-D2 charm has subtle black weathering to highlight details. These are designed to hang in a ‘messy’ style cluster when worn, which, despite the number of charms, has quite a subtle effect – you don’t immediately spot the individual characters unless you pay closer attention.

The necklace is a ‘long chain’ style – I can easily put this over my head without opening the clasp. In addition to the length, the necklace also has a section of adjustment chain, so it can be worn longer if desired. The necklace is actually two separate lengths, each attaching to the central rhinestone ring, so the pendant cluster always stays centered when worn. I always appreciate this feature, so I don’t have to routinely check if the clasp has worked it’s way around to the front.

The pendants themselves are all different sizes – C-3PO is the smallest, at 26mm tall, R2-D2 is 38mm tall, Darth Vader is 30mm tall, and the Star Wars logo is 60mm long. The rhinestone strips measure 50mm long each, with 10 stones in each strip – these are larger rhinestones than those used on the center ring. The chain cluster is made from the same chain as the necklace, so it coordinates nicely. The whole necklace measures approximately 83cm long, with a further 7.5cm of adjustment chain. It is designed to sit lower on the chest than standard necklace styles, so that the charms ‘hang’, rather than sitting against your body. This also gives the necklace that charm bracelet type of ‘jingle’ sound when worn, when the charms move against each other.

The size and number of charms does give the necklace a little bit of weight, but I find it very comfortable to wear. I love having a new jewelry style to add to my wardrobe – I plan to pair this with a plain color top to really show off the pendants!
