Today’s review features the women’s Star Wars Queen Amidala perfume. German brand Lifestyle Perfumes first released this perfume back in 2016, and was initially only available in Europe – but it is now stocked at Amazon and Walmart in the US. I am so happy to see Queen Amidala included in a beauty product collection!
Queen Amidala embodies a classy and brave femininity. The oriental fragrance with sensual accords of vanilla and amber is in perfect harmony with the gold and white design of the packaging.
The perfume is available in two sizes – 40ml for US$13.65 each, or 60ml for US$20.00 each. Please note Amazon can only ship this item within the US, and some mail forwarding companies will not ship perfumes (please check shipping restrictions before purchasing).
- Women’s Queen Amidala perfume – US$13.65 to US$20.00 each – sizes 40ml and 60ml (Amazon)
- Women’s Queen Amidala perfume – US$13.78 each – size 40ml (Walmart)
The perfume came in a gold coloured cardboard box, sealed in clear plastic. This is the smaller of the two sizes available – 40ml (1.4fl.oz). At the time, this was the only size available – it is not very often I am able to travel to the US, so I took the opportunity to get this while visiting last year, as my mail forwarding service would not ship perfumes.
As a Star Wars collector, I am always happy to see when items arrive undamaged in the mail – especially when they contain a liquid! Perfumes in particular are one item that has a strong focus on packaging design – perfume bottles make beautiful displays on a bathroom shelf. Packaging is also a way to convey a sense of the perfume, with style and design – this is a beauty item after all.
The tall rectangular box is gold and white, to match the bottle design. The top of the box has a lovely satin gold finish, while the lower half of the box has a shiny gold finish. The lower half also has embossed lines, echoing the lines on the perfume bottle. The box opens at the top with a flap lid, while the front features the Star Wars logo, and the text ‘Amidala woman’, and ‘The Force Is With You’.
The bottom of the box notes ‘Design Direction by Michalsky’, and includes the Star Wars and Lucasfilm copyright information. While Lifestyle Perfumes is based in Germany, this perfume is made in France.
The top of the box features the Rebel Alliance ‘starbird’ symbol, embossed in shiny gold against the gold satin-finish lid. While Padme’ Amidala was a member of the Loyalist Committee with Mon Mothma and Bail Organa, she did not live to see the Rebellion, particularly not the era with this symbol. I do understand that it is a recognisable Star Wars symbol, and more well known than the Naboo symbol. I do wish companies would use the Naboo symbol for Queen/Padme’ Amidala themed items, as it is much more fitting – and a very pretty design!
The Queen Amidala ‘woman’ perfume comes in a cylindral shaped bottle with a shiny gold finish. The white band around the top is embossed with the Star Wars logo – the white has a subtle pearlescent shimmer when viewed up close in person. With the gorgeous gold finish, I can image Amidala using this perfume when getting ready in the morning.
This perfume is part of a collection – the other fragrances in the range are men’s ‘Empire’ and men’s ‘Jedi’ perfumes. The bottle design is inspired by a lightsaber hilt. While a lightsaber design works for Empire (red lightsaber bottle for Sith) and Jedi (blue lightsaber bottle for Jedi), using the same lightsaber shape for Queen Amidala doesn’t fit quite as well. Of course, it isn’t shaped exactly like a lightsaber, so aside from the inspiration, it is also an interesting shape – and I always happy to see Queen Amidala included in any collection! I do appreciate that you can’t see the perfume level – once it is used up, the bottle still looks lovely to display.
It can be a little hard to convey the scent of a perfume in a visual review. Personally I knew I wanted it, even without knowing whether I liked the scent or not! When shopping for perfumes, being able to test them is a big deciding factor – or at least, having a basic idea of the scent notes. According to Lifestyle Perfumes, the scent notes of this Queen Amidala perfume are –
- Head notes – Granny Smith, Frozen Pear, Tangerine
- Heart notes – Patchouli, Sandalwood, Clove, Orange Flower
- Base notes – Vanilla, Praline, Musk
Personally, I really like this perfume. It’s the sort of light and pretty scent I could wear everyday – and I would, if I could easily buy more. Sadly I’m not able to travel overseas very often, so I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to add more of this perfume to my collection, so I’ll probably save it for specific occasions. I do enjoy an excuse to be able to add a new perfume to my shelf – it’s Star Wars! Queen Amidala perfume – of course I needed it.
While I do wish I could have got the larger perfume bottle (it will last longer), I am very happy with the shape and design of this smaller one. While the larger bottle conveys the lightsaber design a little better, it does tend to look more like a regular spray deodorant can. This shorter design looks right at home next to my other pretty perfume bottles. For comparison, here it is next to the Princess Leia perfume –
This perfume has a spray bottle design. Twisting the white plastic band around the bottle reveals/hides the spray nozzle – the gold rim around the nozzle rises when twisting the band to the left, and lowers to reveal the nozzle when twisting the band to the right. The little plastic button on the white band doesn’t actually function, it is for decoration – an ‘on switch’ for the lightsaber bottle design. To spray the perfume, simply press down on the top nozzle.
The bottom of the bottle has the manufacturer/distributor information, and notes it is Eau de Parfum – the second highest concentration of essences, above Eau de Toilette and Eau de Cologne, and below true Perfume. Most typical perfumes are Eau de Parfum – true perfume is much more expensive, due to the high concentration of essences (less water, etc).
This Queen Amidala perfume is a beautiful addition to my Star Wars fragrance collection. I am always looking for ways to incorporate a little Queen Amidala elegance into my day – now I can wear Queen Amidala inspired perfume! Now someone needs to make a full cosmetics collection….
This perfume is perfect for occasions when you can’t wear obvious Star Wars fashion. Nobody will recognise a perfume as being ‘Star Wars’ – unless it becomes your daily favourite and all your friends and family know! 🙂
